Gardens of Paradise: The Language of Flowers in Iznik Ceramics
The “Gardens of Paradise: The Language of Flowers in Iznik Ceramics” exhibition is a collaboration between the National Museum of Oman and the Louvre Abu Dhabi - the first ever outside exhibition for the former.
The exhibition incorporates Iznik ceramics from the Ottoman empire with the artefacts in the Splendours of Islam Gallery. These ceramics, decorated with flowers and hues of colours, hold significant cultural and religious values and symbols that describe the Qura’nic descriptions of gardens of Paradise. Especially the tulip, in Turkish “Lalah” (لاله) is extensively used to associate with the word of God (Allah), departing from the previous geometric arts in Islam, and closely inspired from Chinese porcelain.
